About Martinique®, the pattern The Original Banana Leaf Print. Upon returning from vacation in the South Seas in 1942, Remy & Lucile Chatain sought to recreate not just the rich visual landscapes they had experienced in the tropics, but the sense of lushness and exuberance those sights had filled them with, too.
Together with their friend, noted illustrator and textile designer Albert Stockdale, they designed a large-scale botanical pattern to recapture and evoke those feelings, and mounted it in their showroom.
When Don Loper, the well-known apparel and interior designer tasked with the Beverly Hills Hotel redesign came into their showroom, he knew he’d found the look he wanted. He re-created the Chatains’ mural-style installation he’d seen at the showroom, and expanded it to fit the corridors of the hotel. The result? An ageless icon.
For over 75 years, we have proudly been the sole producer of the authentic Martinique® banana leaf fabric and wallpaper. Accept no substitutes.
About Martinique®, the pillow All of the pillows in our Belgian Linen collection are made to order in Los Angeles, California. The fabrics are printed in small batches by hand by our partners at a family-owned facility on the finest (and softest) Belgian Linen, and your pillows will be cut and sewn to order just a mile down the road from there by another family-owned workshop. We've been working with both of these partners for over a decade because they're simply the best at what they do.
Each pillow is made using our hand-printed fabrics for the front and back, as well as for the piped border. How the pattern is placed on each pillow will vary and may not look exactly like the one pictured here, and our partners will always do their best to align seams on edges wherever possible. Each pillow is fitted with a concealed YKK zipper.
To care for your pillows, we recommend spot cleaning any stains as quickly as possible. Dry cleaning may impact the brightness of the pigments used in our printing process, but will not damage pillows overall - we recommend dry cleaning only in the case of persistent stains. Iron any wrinkles out while the pillow cover is turned inside out on your iron's medium heat or linen setting.
Our Green and Navy colorways are printed on Natural linen; Pink, Platinum and Sand are printed on White linen.
Pillow cover: 100% Belgian Linen. 25/75 feather/down pillow insert with cotton cover.
