About Solaire, the pattern Slow-turning caned ceiling fan. Island flowers and graphic geometry.
This pattern hints at the imperfect art of natural caning – while simultaneously evoking the precise geometry of traditional Japanese artwork. We gleefully discovered a small collection of textiles our second-generation owners, Remy and Lucile Chatain, purchased from a trading company in Kobe, Japan, in the mid 1930s. The idea for Solaire came from one of these originals – a metallic foil print on the softest of rice papers. Bold and graphic, but easily incorporated into any space – especially with the universal appeal of natural, white and navy.
About Solaire, the pillow All of the pillows in our Belgian Linen collection are made to order in Los Angeles, California. The fabrics are printed in small batches by hand by our partners at a family-owned facility on the finest (and softest) Belgian Linen, and your pillows will be cut and sewn to order just a mile down the road from there by another family-owned workshop. We've been working with both of these partners for over a decade because they're simply the best at what they do.
Each pillow is made using our hand-printed fabrics for the front and back, as well as for the piped border. How the pattern is placed on each pillow will vary and may not look exactly like the one pictured here, and our partners will always do their best to align seams on edges wherever possible. Each pillow is fitted with a concealed YKK zipper.
To care for your pillows, we recommend spot cleaning any stains as quickly as possible. Dry cleaning may impact the brightness of the pigments used in our printing process, but will not damage pillows overall - we recommend dry cleaning only in the case of persistent stains. Iron any wrinkles out while the pillow cover is turned inside out on your iron's medium heat or linen setting.
Both colorways of Solaire are printed on Natural Linen.
Pillow cover: 100% Belgian Linen. 25/75 feather/down pillow insert with cotton cover.

Second-generation CW Stockwell owner Lucile Chatain found this small piece of block-printed rice paper on a trip to Japan - nearly a century ago - and stowed it away for future inspiration.
The nature of hand-printed textiles has the Japanese aesthetic concept of wabi sabi at its core. Solaire exemplifies this intersection in its own perfectly imperfect way.
Defined simply - wabi hints at the minor quirks that occur in making something by hand which add to its inherent beauty, while sabi speaks to the idea of celebrating age, patina and impermanence.
Wabi sabi - where the straight lines of Japanese geometry meet the age-old tradition of hand-caned rattan? We're sold.
