Adapted from a 1950’s CW Stockwell pattern from our ongoing “Trend of the Times” collection, Sakana (meaning “fish” in Japanese) celebrates the spirit of the koi fish, which has long been associated with good luck and longevity.
We worked with LA-based designer Joe Lucas of Lucas Studio to bring this pattern back from our archives in wallpaper form for the “Palmetto Snug”, his space at the 2020 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach. The “Palmetto Pink” variation is based exactly upon one of the original colorways from the 1950’s collection; Lucas’s vision helped to herald its timeless appeal with other rich material selections like a terrazzo surround shower and a custom vanity by Los Angeles design duo Lawson-Fenning.
Hand-printed in Los Angeles, each colorway also includes metallic gold-foil ink to accentuate the distinctive swim style of each fish.
