About Sakana, the pattern Adapted from a 1950’s CW Stockwell pattern from our ongoing “Trend of the Times” collection, Sakana (meaning “fish” in Japanese) celebrates the spirit of the koi fish, which has long been associated with good luck and longevity.
We worked with LA-based designer Joe Lucas of Lucas Studio to bring this pattern back from our archives in wallpaper form for the “Palmetto Snug”, his space at the 2020 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach. The “Palmetto Pink” variation is based exactly upon one of the original colorways from the 1950’s collection; Lucas’s vision helped to herald its timeless appeal with other rich material selections like a terrazzo surround shower and a custom vanity by Los Angeles design duo Lawson-Fenning.
Hand-printed in Los Angeles, each colorway also includes metallic gold-foil ink to accentuate the distinctive swim style of each fish.
About Sakana, the pillow All of the pillows in our Belgian Linen collection are made to order in Los Angeles, California. The fabrics are printed in small batches by hand by our partners at a family-owned facility on the finest (and softest) Belgian Linen, and your pillows will be cut and sewn to order just a mile down the road from there by another family-owned workshop. We've been working with both of these partners for over a decade because they're simply the best at what they do.
Each pillow is made using our hand-printed fabrics for the front and back, as well as for the piped border. How the pattern is placed on each pillow will vary and may not look exactly like the one pictured here, and our partners will always do their best to align seams on edges wherever possible. Each pillow is fitted with a concealed YKK zipper.
To care for your pillows, we recommend spot cleaning any stains as quickly as possible. Dry cleaning may impact the brightness of the pigments used in our printing process, but will not damage pillows overall - we recommend dry cleaning only in the case of persistent stains. Iron any wrinkles out while the pillow cover is turned inside out on your iron's medium heat or linen setting.
Our Tangerine, Indigo and Black colorways are printed on White linen; Palmetto Pink and Marine are printed on custom dyed grounds.
Pillow cover: 100% Belgian Linen. 25/75 feather/down pillow insert with cotton cover.
